Meet Chef Marino D’Antonio of Opera Bombana

Chef Marino D’Antonio has been heading the kitchen of award winning Italian restaurant Opera Bombana in Beijing for almost three years.

Gail met with Chef Marino to talk about his experience in Beijing, Italian home cooking and the new Pizza venue at the Parkview Green shopping and art center.

Located at the Parkview Green Mall, Opera Bombana shares the building’s goal of promoting modern art and designed space.

At noon, the restaurant bathes in natural light coming in through the tall windows.

The art work is constantly changing. The restaurant offers its space to some of the leading modern Chinese and foreign artists and a meal at Opera Bombana is like a visit to an art gallery.

Opera Bombana is famous for its superb bread.

Baked daily in the restaurant, Opera’s bread selection keeps growing and at different hours of the day the restaurant offers various breads and a great selection of classic Italian pastry.

The oven and bakery face the open dining space and diners can see how the magic is made.

Opera Bombana offers high-end Italian home cooking with many of the dishes representing the northern Italian cuisine typical to the city of Bergamo - Chef Marino’s home town.

Opera Bombana’s menu changes seasonally to perfectly suit the weather, the seasons and of course, the freshest ingredients available.

On a clear cold Beijing winter day we sampled the lunch menu:

Panzanella Salad

A perfect Oxtail Consomme, guaranteed to warm your belly and your heart on a cold winter day.

Fusilli al Pesto

Braised Lamb Shank a hearty meat main from the cold north of Italy

If you want to go winter all the way, opt for the chocolate dessert

Or if you still need to go back to work after lunch, maybe a lighter dessert…

…with a lemony surprise inside…

I’m definitely going back for more of that!

In Late 2015 Chef Marino and the Opera Bombana team launched a new project at the Parkview Green called Pizza View, introducing for the first time in Beijing Rome style Pizza served by the slice.

Traditional Rome style, thick crust piazza with classic toppings where you can try a slice of everything makes a perfect family meal.

Fresh tomatoes and basil or artichokes and ham, take a bite, close your eyes and feel like you are in a piazza in Rome on a sunny summer afternoon even if its 5 below zero outside.

And no pizza experience will be complete without homemade real Italian Gelato!

Gail’s favorite – pistachio, of course!
