Dialogue 1

Mark: Well, Jingjing, the Spring Festival is coming up. Are you ready for your cruise?

Jingjing: You mean that cruise I booked last fall? That fell through. ----

Mark: Maybe you did, and I forgot. Sorry to hear that.

Jingjing: That's all right. The travel agency ---- itinerary for the May holiday. So, I'll be looking forward to that.

Mark: Oh, that sounds good. -------------

Jingjing: I'll just fly back to my home-------- with my parents. Since we'll be travelling together a few months from now, -----at home a few days from now.

Mark: Was the plane ticket expensive?

Jingjing: I thought I'd have to pay through the nose. -------the train ticket would have cost.

Mark: I'll be flying too, on Spring Festival eve.

Jingjing:  So, you'll miss the--------

Mark: I don't really think of it that way. ------ And I'm sure CCTV will replay highlights of the gala. Hey, I'll probably –

Jingjing: It sounds like a win-win, then. -------back home before dinnertime on the eve.

Mark: It's the world's biggest transportation rush every year. ----have to work on those days.

Jingjing: I agree. Those people working on planes,------ have a busy holiday.

Mark: Let's hope most of them can get home at least for a day or two.

Jingjing: Everyone deserves some time to rest with their family.


Dialogue 2

Jingjing: Mark, do Americans have a holiday like the Spring Festival?

Mark: There's not one that spans so many days.

Jingjing: But there is a time------ their relatives, right?

Mark: People definitely value time with older members of their family—their parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents. ---- Easter—whatever jives with their work schedule.

Jingjing: So, people try to visit once a year, at least?

Mark: Yeah, and there's not ---though Christmas is a heavier travel time than any other time of year.

Jingjing: I heard that families--------

Mark: Exactly. That makes it less likely for people to all ----

Jingjing: People face a dilemma in China too. ----parents for the Spring Festival. If her own parents live in a different part of the country, it can be difficult to arrange.

Mark: That sounds like a tough choice to make. ---------

Jingjing: That might be a compromise.

Mark: Anyway, when I first found out about how people ---family members as possible, --------very charming.

Jingjing: Yeah, it's a nice tradition.
